About Java 7
Java 7 introduced try-with-resources and the diamond operator. Use this version when an older build or application explicitly requires a Java 7 toolchain.
These are legacy builds. Check the vendor's maintenance policy and your application's requirements before using them in a deployed environment.
Choose a Java 7 build
This catalog lists 2 distributions for Java 7. Available architecture labels include amd64, arm, sparc, sparcv9, x64, x86; availability differs by operating system and vendor.
Choose JDK to compile Java code. If you only need a runtime, use More filters to check for JRE packages. An installer and a compressed archive can contain the same Java version but require different installation steps.
Verify your JDK installation
After installing, open a new terminal and check both commands. They should report Java 7 (often displayed as 1.7). If they differ, check PATH, JAVA_HOME, and your IDE's selected JDK.
